Our April concert continues our virtual
world tour of music from other cultures and parts of the world with a
visit to the Middle East. Israeli and Palestinian artists will join us for an
evening of music that we hope will help inspire dialogue and understanding.
Praised as a fresh, young voice worth following by
Gramophone Magazine, Avner Dorman has quickly become one of
Israels most successful composers whose works have been played by the New
York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and San Francisco Symphony, among others.
We'll play Astrolatry, a work inspired by the beauty and mystery of the
cosmos.
Palestinian-American composer John Bisharat grew up playing the
piano, cello and bass, and studied film scoring at UCLA. Eclectic in his
musical style, Bisharat has composed, arranged and conducted for film,
television, radio and ballet as well as for the concert hall. We'll also give
our first performance of Griegs Piano Concerto, featuring Israeli soloist
Eliran Avni. Described as possessing ironclad technique as well as
assurance and flexibility by The New York Times, Eliran Avni
is an emerging force on the classical music scene.
(Suitable for children 10 and over.)
