We'll continue our exploration of music from other cultures and parts
of the world in April with a program featuring works by Filipino jazz
composers, as well as a concerto from the Western classical tradition featuring
a Filipino soloist.
Victor Noriega, one of the finest jazz pianists and
composers of the past decade, draws on the rich heritage of Filipino songs in
his work, adding his own fresh interpretations and distinctive musical style.
His new work, written especially for OEBS, is sure to be an exciting blend of
classical, jazz and Filipino folk elements. We'll also perform a new work by
local jazz pianist, composer, arranger and educator Art Khu, who has played at
many of the nation's finest jazz establishments, as well as at international
jazz festivals.
Oakland native David Requiro makes his OEBS debut
playing Dvorak's magnificent Cello Concerto.
(Suitable for children 10 and over.)
