  In
March, we welcome back several guest artists and conductors who helped make
last seasons Carmina Burana such a success. Lynne Morrow and Bryan
Nies will again share conducting duties with Maestro Morgan, and singers Carrie
Hennessey and Zachary Gordin will return as soloists, in a program celebrating
natures elements.
OEBS Assistant Conductor Bryan Nies will lead
the Four Sea Interludes from Brittens first large-scale successful opera,
Peter Grimes. These orchestral interludes, often performed as a
stand-alone concert piece, move between outer landscape and inner psyche,
reflecting the inner turmoil of the operas title character.
Faurés Requiem, which enjoyed great popularity even
during the composers lifetime, differs in many ways from a traditional
Requiem Mass. Rather than taking a sorrowful tone, this work is filled with the
optimism of faith and eternal harmony with the universe.
Handels Music for the Royal Fireworks is a score of
unparalleled instrumental splendor. Written at the behest of King George II to
accompany a fireworks display in Londons Green Park, it celebrated the
end of the War of the Austrian Succession and the signing of the Treaty of
Aix-la-Chapelle.
(Suitable for children 10 and over.)
