We'll open in grand style
with popular works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Leonard Bernstein. Maestro
Morgan will launch the season with Beethoven's immortal Fifth Symphony, and the
Paramount will resound with the most famous and frequently sampled four notes
in Western music.
The orchestra will also perform Leonard Bernstein's
complete score to the acclaimed Jerome Robbins ballet Fancy Free, a work
about three sailors on leave in New York that was later expanded into the hit
Broadway musical On the Town and the Academy Award-winning film starring
Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra.
Soprano Hope Briggs, who made her debut
as the soprano soloist in our 2006 performance of Dvorak's Stabat Mater,
returns to the stage of the Paramount Theatre to perform arias from a variety
of operas by Wagner, Puccini and Verdi.
