Gates Open at 1:00pm, show starts at 2:00pm Concert with members of OEBS orchestra and The Ponticellos begins at 4:00pm Woodminster Amphitheatre 3300 Joaquin Miller Road, Oakland CA Michael Morgan, Conductor Strings of a Nubian Groove (aka S O N G), an eclectic collection of American African string performers, will be performing classical/ crossover/ethno-eclectic fusion music. Michael Morgan, on keyboard, will perform Pachelbel Canon and a movement from a Vivaldi Concerto for 3 violins. The Ponticellos, the Bay Area's premiere cello ensemble, will be presenting an exciting and vibrant selection of jazz and rock from artists such as Jimmy Hendrix, Herbie Hancock and George Gershwin. Accompanied by members of the Oakland East-Bay Symphony with an all-star rhythm section of exciting bay area musicians, LaToya London will perform well-known soul and R & B hits from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Sade and more. Using her extensive vocal talents Ms. London will also perform some unique renditions of jazz standards made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. To round out the show Ms. London will also perform some of her own songs from her album Love and Life. This concert is part of the Sundays in the Redwoods Outdoor Concert Series and is presented by the City of Oakland Office of Parks and Recreation and Councilmember Jean Quan. DIRECTIONS: Woodminster Amphitheater is located in the Oakland hills, one mile up the hill from the Joaquin Miller Road exit off Highway 13. From the south: Take 580 to Highway 13 exit (Warren Freeway) and take the Joaquin Miller Road exit. turn right to go up the hill. From San Francisco: Take 580 East to highway 24 (toward Walnut Creek). Take Highway 13 South toward Hayward and follow Highway 13 until you get to Joaquin Miller Road exit. Turn left up the hill. |
