The Words&Music Project
Writers and Composers coming together for a ground-breaking collaboration! Sponsored by The James Irvine Foundation

The Words & Music Project continues!

Last September OEBS brought together 10 writers and 10 composers who were selected from a large number of entries.  A three-day symposium was held in hopes of building creative teams of writers and composers.  The success: was overwhelming!  We received 18 proposals for new works.

As part of the next stage in The Project we accepted 6 of these proposals for further development in the form of piano reduction excerpts  from their proposed works. These excerpts will be performed in a reading at :

Sunday, January 11, 2004 - 2:30 PM

Crowden School
1475 Rose Street, Berkeley CA

ADMISSION IS FREE

The excerpts  to be performed are as follows:

1. Guillermo Galindo/Albert De Silver: Aviaria Encinal

2. Erling Wold/Dima Hilal: Raheel

3. Ernie Mansfield/Blake More: Poems of Peace

4. Guillermo Galindo/devorah major: Trade Routes

5. William Ludtke/David Masumoto: Baachan

6. Melissa Hui/Tony Seymour: Requiem for Civilization

We anticipate choosing TWO works from among these to commission for the orchestra (there will be two other works included in the Words & Music Project: one a large-scale, multi-artist work; the other one youth-based. These other works will have separate processes for generating artistic involvement).
